Liam Scales produced a man of the match display in the Glasgow Derby, easily his best game in a Celtic shirt.

Ironically if it wasn’t for injury’s Liam would most likely not be at the club at this moment. He was of course tipped to be sold or to go out on yet another loan spell, with Aberdeen again touted as his possible destination, with Barry Robson talking to Brendan Rodgers on numerous occasions to try to seal the deal.

Can today be a reprieve for Liam and can he make the grade at Celtic? In all honesty it’s very doubtful as when Cameron Carter-Vickers, Maik Nawrocki and Stephen Welsh come back from Injury it will push him further down the pecking order, and don’t forget new loan signing Nat Phillips who will also be fighting for the same spot.

Although if Liam continues to put in performances such as today it will give Brendan Rodgers food for thought.

Or could Liam be the answer to another problem position? Namely the left back slot. Greg Taylor is underperforming this season and looks a shadow of the player he was under Ange Postecoglou.

Alexandro Bernabei also at this moment in time doesn’t look like he’s the answer. So could Liam step in and provide competition in that area? Or even make the position his own?

He’s played that position many times in his career and done so comfortably, so it’s not a big adjustment. Of course we still need a new face for that position, but could the answer be right under our noses? It’s something worth considering. Time will tell.
