Liam Scales is worth a place in the Celtic squad

Liam Scales has had a decent pre-season under Brendan Rodgers, and although the Irishman is by no means going to a be regular in the starting XI, he is definitely worthy of a place in Celtic squad for the upcoming campaign.

Liam of course had a loan spell at Aberdeen last term and by all accounts he done pretty well. Indeed Aberdeen manager Barry Robson has had multiple conversations with Brendan Rodgers, hoping to convince the Celtic manager  to allow Scales to join Aberdeen this summer. But Rodgers has been in no rush to sanction such a move as he takes a close look at his fellow Irishman himself and increasingly likes what he sees.

Celtic’s on loan defender Liam Scales scores for Aberdeen and celebrates with team mates after his long range looping effort beat theRangers veteran goalkeeper Allan McGregor to give Aberdeen a 1-0 lead. That first team experience seems to have done him the world of good as he’s looked sharp and fit in the pre season games. He looks that much better than he did when he first arrived at Celtic.

Of course it’s only pre season, but he looks very much like a player who wants to fight for a place in the side. He’s hungry and raring to go, and with performances like last night he will do a fine job for us.

He performed well in his last two outings against Wolves and Athletic Club, two decent sides. So he could more than hold his own in the SPFL.

He’s in no way ready to shift CCV or Carl Starfelt from the back, even Maik Nawrocki will be ahead of him, but as a squad player he could more than play his part. Scales would be similar to Tony Ralston, not the first pick for his position but when called upon he never lets the side down.  Maybe that’s the conclusion that Brendan Rodgers will come to so there could be some frustrating news coming the way of Barry Robson shortly.

Probably more frustrating for Stephen Welsh as Scales has certainly leap frogged over him and it Probably should be him going out on loan

    • Finally Scales is being played in his favourite position, which is where he played at Aberdeen- Central Defence (he said as much in his interview when he was signed) but where was he played when he did play for us? … left back. He may be a backup player .. whether that is good for both us or him is another issue.
