Liam Scales was magnificent for Celtic in the 3-0 win over Rangers

Credit due where credit is due, Liam Scales was absolutely magnificent for Celtic yesterday afternoon in the 3-0 victory over theRangers…

If he keeps playing like that then Auston Trusty will have a fight on his hands to be a regular starter and that level of competition in every position in the team is exactly what Brendan Rodgers set out to achieve this summer.

There wasn’t one failure in our side during the 3-0 win over theRangers at Paradise on another Beautiful Sunday for the Celtic support. Each and every Celtic player played their part and one of those players was particularly impressive was Liam Scales.

Liam is sometimes a scapegoat for some of the more critical Celtic supporters and is unfairly criticised more often than not. I myself am of the belief he is a squad player, but give him nothing but my full support when he pulls on that Celtic shirt.

On Sunday against theRangers I thought that  Liam Scales was magnificent. He was dominant in the air he was good on the deck and withstood the little threat that theRangers front line offered.

Liam’s place is of course under more scrutiny due to the arrival of Auston Trusty and that perhaps has made him step up his game a little, which can only be seen as a good thing.

Credit dues where’s credit due in regard to Liam’s performance on Sunday, he deserves all the praise that’s coming his way. If he keeps playing like that then Auston Trusty will have a fight on his hands to regularly play alongside his international teammate Cameron Carter Vickers, £6 million price tag or not. As I said already, that’s exactly the way Brendan wants it to be.

  1. B R is correct.
Just because he didn’t come from the nursery of a fashionable club or with an exotic name his face doesn’t fit with some Celtic fans.
He is a young centre back who played a great part in last season’s successes and hopefully will develop even more this season.
Aberdeen were very keen to keep him.
C V has been prone to mistakes this season as all players are inc our captain.
Great to have so many left sided options now including McCowan who I feel will prove to be a great addition.
    Hail Hail.

    • Liam Scales was superb yesterday, simply a 5 star performance from the Bhoy, felt he was good enough for man of the match.

    • I think you nailed it. Some fans pick on players for all the wrong reasons. Scales was extremely important to us last season. Sure he made some mistakes, but he wasn’t the only one!
That said, he was a huge part of us winning the double. Huge!

  2. Liam has never let us down, gives his all every game and has more than earned his starting place!

  3. Wouldn’t be ourselves, if we didn’t have a scapegoat to turn to, if performances or results aren’t to our liking in general?
Taylor and scales usually become them, generally because the left side of our defence, could be considered as our weakest area within our team?
Bit unfair really, as they don’t get the praise they do deserve in general, when they are playing well on a consistent basis?
Scales has produced some fantastic displays for ourselves, even at CL level, and especially against the scum, with yesterday only another to be added to an ever growing list?
Admittedly I was concerned when Rodgers gave him the CB role, last season, but he has repaid Rodgers trust in him, on umpteen occasions at this stage imo?
Every player can make improvements within their own games?
In the same way, every player is well capable of making mistakes within games?
Yet these will always be highlighted moreso with the players who are less acceptable, and overlooked when the acceptable players do exactly the same things during matches?
Personally really enjoy seeing our players making the adjustments that Rodgers is looking for, so they become far more effective for our team?
At present scales and Taylor are producing, but it still will be required upon a consistent basis also, which was a massive factor within our team for large chunks of last season?
Yet, with getting a decent all round squad in place for ourselves eventually, them same conditions apply to every player now, not just our scapegoats?
