Liam Shaw quietly left Celtic in the summer after his contract was paid up, leaving the midfielder as a free agent. Does this help explain the James McCarthy mystery?

Today we learn that he’s signed a deal with Charlie Adam down at Fleetwood Town until the end of this season as Shaw looks to kick-start his career at the English League Two side, formerly managed by Scott Brown.

The 23-year-old joined the Hoops in 2020 but made just two senior appearances for the club and was deemed surplus to requirements by Brendan Rodgers.

He signed a four-year deal with Celtic in 2021 but failed to make an impact under Ange Postecoglou or Brendan Rodgers. Shaw had loan spells at Motherwell, Morecambe and Wigan Athletic before returning to Celtic.

He now looks to get his playing career back on track and is set to make his debut tomorrow at away to Bromley.

The other point worth noting in this is that Celtic didn’t released details of Shaw leaving Celtic and that could also be the situation with James McCarthy who has been removed from the official Celtic FC website’s list of current players but no official announcement was made despite numerous stories appearing via fan media, including The Celtic Star.

We’ll need to clarify this with Brendan at a media conference…

The very best of luck to Liam Shaw down at Fleetwood Town.
