“Lisbon Lions the greatest team in history?” The Football History Boys ask

‘There have been many great teams in football history – but few as good as Celtic’s Lisbon Lions in 1967. A stunning side that favoured attacking football in a time of catenaccio – Jock Stein’s team would face Helenio Herrera’s Inter in the 1967 European Cup Final in Lisbon!’ The Football History Boys

Over 57 years after Jock Stein’s Celtic side became the first club from Britain to win the European Cup,  two young  football supporters from south of the border, sat down to analyse the 1967 European Cup final and ask if the Lisbon Lions are The Best Team of All-Time?

It’s the wider significance of what that victory against the defensive-minded Italian Champions meant to football, and they trace this match to the founding moments of what was to become known as Total Football.  The video is below and it’s well worth grabbing a cuppa and enjoying the ten minutes or so as the Lisbon Lions are held in awe for by these two football supporter from later generations who have no particular links to Celtic.

The comments at the very end are extra-special and show the profound impact the Lisbon Lions continue to have on the wider football community almost six decades after they changed football for the better, forever.

  1. There has been a number of great footballing achievements created within the game worldwide.
But nothing comes even close to what the “Lions” of Lisbon achieved imo?
And what makes it stand out even more, that nothing close to such an achievement will even come close to be matched ever again also?
The European cup has always been regarded as the biggest club competition in football.
Even the replacement with the CL has only really diluted the competition for money purposes.
Even this nonsense of a world club tournament remains a nonsense, with the European champions only having to show up to win a tournament that no-one takes any notice of?
Yet it will forever more, make me laugh at the scum, with such a show of trying to be so British?
Yet they have to look at ourselves as the 1st historic winners, with a tag we don’t even acknowledge to highly either?
Furthermore there is no chance of the scum ever joining our company alongside such winners either.
So the scum still remain as the kingpin of British failure, and yet they continue to fail to see it still?
The historic achievements created by the Lions of Lisbon will never be forgotten, and remain so proud of our supporters acknowledging the fact of the greatest ever achievement, created within the history of the game, in the 67th minute of every home game, especially within the CL matches.
A tradition now within our club that should never be allowed to be broken either imo?
