Liverpool slap astounding £8m price tag on former Celtic defender

Liverpool have placed a huge valuation on Nat Phillips as Trabzonspor look to sign the Celtic flop. Arne Slot has arrived in Merseyside and is looking to carry on the success of Jurgen Klopp’s glittering reign but clearly he doesn’t see the Englishman in his plans.

The 27-year-old spent the first half of last season on loan at Celtic before the deal was cut short by Brendan Rodgers after he failed to offer defensive cover at Celtic Park.

According to The Athletic’s James Pearce, Liverpool want £8m for the defender amidst interest from Championship sides.

After arriving from Anfield as defensive cover, Phillips made eight appearances and was poor in his cameo against Hibs as well as being at fault versus Killie. The big defender came in despite not playing a lot of games and did not impressed. The deal was always cut short and the player was always likely to be loaned out again in the January window as his opportunities in the first team under Jurgen Klopp were always going to be even slimmer than they were at Celtic.

The spell at Celtic will likely not put suitors off but it’s astounding that this fee is being asked for by Liverpool.
