Loan deal for Kieran Tierney would set Celtic up for a memorable season

Former Celtic stars, Kieran Tierney and Giorgous Giakoumakis have been pictured together following a pre-season clash between Arsenal and MLS All-Stars.

Arsenal faced the MLS All-Stars earlier today in Washington D.C. The American side included the very best players the MLS had to offer. However, Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal left them stunned as the gunners demolished them 5-0, a scoreline that sports betting online provided outstanding odds on ahead of kick-off. Both Tierney and Giakoumakis started on the bench and came on later in the match. Tierney’s 25-minute performance was most notable, as he played extremely well at left-centre back, take note Celtic.

Although Kieran and Giorgos never actually played together at Celtic, they were still keen to meet and exchange strips. They posted pictures of their meet onto each of their respective Instagram accounts.

Tierney of course has been the subject of speculation linking him with a loan move from Arsenal back to Celtic for a season long deal, with the former Celtic left-back being reportedly happy to take a wage cut to allow the deal to go ahead.

Whether this will happen will depend on many factors,  not least whether Mikel Arteta sees a role for the left back who cost Arsenal £25 million four years ago.  And there was also transfer speculation linking Tierney with a move to Newcastle United, which would admittedly be a decent move for the Scotland star who perhaps misses home while stuck in London.

Brendan Rodgers, who refuses to rule out a move for KT in this transfer window, has kept in touch with Tierney during the time both spent in England after leaving Celtic in 2019 and that may well be a factor in making this dream for the Celtic support come true. Rodgers is perhaps the only manager Celtic could have appointed who would be in with a decent chance of convincing Tierney to return to Paradise, for a season at least.

Money talks in football, even when it’s a situation that might just suit everyone. Tierney with the pay-cut for a year but getting the chance to star for Celtic and play in the Champions League for the Hoops, Celtic with what would be a huge outlay even for a loan deal with a fee to Arsenal payable and the cost of KT’s admittedly cut price wages.

Tierney would still be the highest paid player at the club alongside his great friend, the Celtic captain Callum McGregor.  And Arsenal would have to compromise too after a season in which they came so close to winning the Premier League, only to blow up in the run-in, and where Tierney found first team football hard to come by for the first time in his entire career.

Celtic’s priority as reported earlier today on The Celtic Star is defensive signings with multiple names emerging as firm contenders since that comical defensive display in the 6-4 defeat against J-League Champions Yokohama F Marinos. With defending like that it would have taken two hat-tricks from Daizen Maeda rather than one for Celtic to have won the friendly match.

Tomorrow morning (11am Celtic Park Time), Rodgers will see what the defending is like in the second tour match, this time against mid-table J-League side Gamba Osaka.  If it’s anything like midweek we could see a very busy period as fas as transfer recruits are concerned and Kieran Tierney is sure to be close to the top of the manager’s wish list.

I pmsl when I hear all the talk about Celtic diehard/ celtic fanatic.
What fanatic/diehard would want to leave before his beloved club got a world record 10 nro.
Leave him in England to get his money and we’ll get on with supporting celtic.
If he really wants to come back then run your contract down and come back but if it’s for a season loan no thanks.
