Sometimes you know that someone just loves to appear in the media with ridiculous quotes, and Peterborough Director of Football Barry Fry is the perfect example.
He’s got history for trying to make everything all about him – go and watch “Big Ron Manager” on Youtube if you haven’t already – and it shows why these comments should be taken with a large pinch of salt.
A report from The Glasgow Times looked at potential interest from Celtic and the Rangers in Peterborough striker Ivan Toney, and he’s placed an almighty price tag on his star man:
“I’ve had agents on telling me that Rangers and Celtic are very interested. But I haven’t had any calls from either Rangers or Celtic, personally.”
“If they have any sense, they’ll pay us £15million to get him. If they haven’t any sense at all, then I won’t be hearing from them.”
He’s an interesting player to be linked with as The Posh do have an incredible record when it comes to developing strikers who go on to play at a higher level, but that report also states that Toney is now going into the last year of his deal.
He’s spent years out on loan and finally found a home with Peterborough in the past couple of seasons where he’s played consistently and scored 49 goals, so it’s understandable that he might be in demand.
Obviously Celtic won’t pay £15m for him, especially when they can just wait a season and pick him up for free, so it will be interesting to see what happens with him this summer.
If he stays and continues to do well, then it will be worth keeping an eye on him in January to see if Celtic look to sign him on a pre-contract agreement.
