Lubo? ‘Laughable?’ Keevins has had egg on his face for 20 years

TWENTY YEARS after having a free kick at Celtic, Hugh Keevins was at Celtic Park yesterday to admit that he got it 100% wring with his infamous Celtic Sign Dud Check story.

He was referring to Lubo Moravcik signing for Celtic and in his Sunday Mail column Keevins wasted no time in putting the boot into Celtic. He has stopped doing it ever since, so if he’s to go to Paradise on the 20th Anniversary of everything he got wrong, he’ll be there most days – perhaps we should give him some office space?

By the time Lubo did this, Keevins well and truly had egg on his face, and Celtic supporters have been reminding him about it ever since.

Keevins wrote this in his newspaper column: “I don’t know what I find more laughable – the fact that Celtic cannot find £500,000 from their biscuit tin to sign a proven talent like John Spencer, or the fact that they then spent £300,000 on one of Dr Jo’s old pals, the unknown Lubomir Moravcik.”

Yesterday Keevins made his apologies in an interview with Celtic TV.

“Said every word of it, wrote every word of it, regret every word of it.

“The role of a columnist is to have an opinion and express that opinion in a forthright manner. I did that, I was 100 per cent wrong, I have come here freely of my own will today to confess my sin. I know there is no absolution because I’ve been doing penance for the last 20 years.”

Lubo of course made him eat these words in quite a spectacular fashion!

“The first memory ingrained in my mind is Celtic playing Rangers here under Dr Jo. Going into the match I believe with no great deal of expectation at that time and Lubo scored.

“The image of Lubo turning around as if to say ‘why is everyone going crazy?’ – that lives with me.

“He was outstanding that day and of course you think to yourself ‘wow this guy is a player’ and he was,” Keevins said.
