Celtic midfielder turned centre half, Nir Bitton, is thought to be in line for a move to Maccabi Tel Aviv in the summer. The Israeli international has two years left on his contract at Parkhead, but is said to be the subject of a transfer back to his homeland.

Maccabi are an ambitious club, looking forward to a last 32 clash with Shaktar Donetsk in the Europa League. The Israeli champions have won five out of the last eight league titles and are currently positioned second in the league.

Bitton is unlikely to be in a rush to depart Celtic, but the prospect of returning to his native country may be an interesting one if the club accept decide to entertain any of the offers anticipated by the Scottish Sun.

We will keep readers updated on any developments with that transfer story, meanwhile Bitton’s fellow Israeli teammate, Hatem ElHamed, could complete his move to Hapoel Be’er Shava in the coming days. Elhamed has returned to Israel after experiencing personal problems in Glasgow. Neil Lennon recently revealed that the club will allow the player to return to his family and it is thought that an £800,000 deal has been agreed for his exit.
