CELTIC have been handed a major boost in their hunt for Fraser Forster as reports from Hampshire suggest that Southampton will look to sign Accrington Stanley’s Toby Savin this January. Football Insider says that the 21-year-old goalkeeper is high on Ralph Hasenhuttl’s transfer wish list as they look to sign the League One standout goalie.
Fraser Forster hasn’t played a minute this season as Alex McCarthy retains the No.1 jersey with the Premier League outfit. However, with the news that Hasenhuttl is looking to bring a new goalkeeper to St Mary’s, Forster could be open to the prospect of returning to Celtic.
Celtic have been a shadow of last season and one of the reasons for that is that Forster hasn’t been the reassuring presence between the sticks. Neither Vasilis Barkas nor Scott Bain have managed to hold down the starting jersey and now, Celtic desperately need to get a new goalkeeper in the door and address the awful defensive record this campaign.
Forster opted against a return to Celtic in the summer, instead preferring to compete for a starting role in the Premier League. Although, Hasenhuttl stuck with McCarthy and now Forster must watch from the bench. Neil Lennon will be hoping he can rely upon the 32-year-old to answer his SOS in the January transfer window and return to the club for a fifth spell.
