Mark Lawwell leaves Celtic role along with other scouting figure

Mark Lawwell has resigned from his role as Head of First Team Scouting at Celtic. Lawwell Jnr joined from City Football Group and it was hoped that he would bring the nouse of the transfer market to push Celtic into the next bracket of £5m+ to help compete in Europe; however, regrettably, it has not worked out.

It is believed that the talent spotter has left to pursue other opportunities in the game. Lawwell’s No.2 Joe Dudgeon, Lead First Team Scout, has also confirmed his resignation from the Scottish Champions.

The news is perhaps unsurprising given the two poor transfer windows since Brendan Rodgers arrived at the club. The pair will be placed on gardening leave while Celtic can seize this opportunity to restructure their recruitment arm.

Rodgers spoke about a collective failing around not getting business done with Peter Lawwell, club chairman, saying that it was a difficult month to do business; however, with £60m+ plus in the bank that excuse wasn’t washing. The club need to spend money and ensure that the club have a modern, aggressive scouting apparatus that can lead to competing in Europe while dominating domestically.

  1. Better late than never…”..to pursue other opportunities”..here’s your coat, what’s your hurry?

  2. First 2 casualties within the season of discontent, comes as no real surprise.
But will these be the only 2?
Somehow, I don’t think they will be imo, especially when it remains unclear upon just how much Rodgers was involved within the whole recruitment process?
Regardless of what went on before, I still believe Rodgers has to win this title, if he is to stay on as our manager for next season imo?
Still the replacement for lawwell junior has to be found quite sharpish, as mounting issues within the playing squad still needs to be resolved?
So presume Rodgers wins this title, that still leaves us with possibly the following players who won’t feature in his or any managers plans for ourselves imo.
Abada, Big Ben, Bernie, largerman, Mccarthy, Hako, Tilo?
So a fair amount of money there tied up in potential transfer fees, along with existing contracts, that have to be resolved Regardless?
Not forgetting that it’s very unclear about the futures of,
Bain, Oh, Holm, kwon, forrest, vata and Mikey Johnson?
A decision has to be made weather Idah and Paulo should be made permanent signings?
This without knowing if any of our potential key players currently have intentions to move on from ourselves at the end of the season?
And still the keeper and LB positions have to be addressed?
So overall we have 16 players at least, who’s futures with ourselves remains very unclear currently?
2 positions that have to be filled.
All of this currently without knowing who is going to be in place for the decisions that have to be made for the club?
Course it’s not to important presently, when the focus is upon the title race, which obviously takes preference at the moment?
Even so, there is still plenty of work for the lawwell junior replacement to be getting started upon now?
With this amount of work potentially on offer, without seeing how the summer could unfold, getting this appointment in the replacement for lawwell still remains crucial for ourselves?
Wouldn’t say that’s there’s a need for a panic appointment but shouldn’t be leaving the position unattended for any long period of time either imo?
Big job already on there hands for the lawwell replacement, and still believe that the position would be far more attractive to any potential candidates if lawwell senior followed his son out of our club?
We make a total mess of getting the lawwell junior replacement, and we could well end up finding ourselves in a very awkward position as a club, that certainly won’t go down to well within our support for sure imo?

  3. If they’ve resigned, how the f**k can they be on gardening leave?Hope this is just the start of the clear out.
