Mark Lawwell has resigned from his role as Head of First Team Scouting at Celtic. Lawwell Jnr joined from City Football Group and it was hoped that he would bring the nouse of the transfer market to push Celtic into the next bracket of £5m+ to help compete in Europe; however, regrettably, it has not worked out.

It is believed that the talent spotter has left to pursue other opportunities in the game. Lawwell’s No.2 Joe Dudgeon, Lead First Team Scout, has also confirmed his resignation from the Scottish Champions.

The news is perhaps unsurprising given the two poor transfer windows since Brendan Rodgers arrived at the club. The pair will be placed on gardening leave while Celtic can seize this opportunity to restructure their recruitment arm.

Rodgers spoke about a collective failing around not getting business done with Peter Lawwell, club chairman, saying that it was a difficult month to do business; however, with £60m+ plus in the bank that excuse wasn’t washing. The club need to spend money and ensure that the club have a modern, aggressive scouting apparatus that can lead to competing in Europe while dominating domestically.
