Celtic have confirmed the appointment of Martin O’Neill as interim manager until the end of the season. The Irishman has once again answered the call by the club to step in and rescue the campaign, this time replacing Wilfried Nancy.
The French manager was sacked after a woeful start to life in Glasgow, losing six out of his first eight games. Following O’Neill was always going to be difficult, especially after the club legend won seven out of his eight games before handing over to Nancy.
Now, he’s sensationally returned on a deal until the end of the season. O’Neill cancelled media appearances on Friday and Saturday, including a Sky Sports gig at Celtic Park. Perhaps O’Neill recognised the pressure this might have put on Nancy as well as the likely questions of whether this would’ve happened under his watch.
Thankfully, O’Neill has agreed to return and he will be assisted by Shaun Maloney, Mark Fotheringham as well as Stevie Woods, Gavin Strachan, Stephen McManus and Greg Wallace.
