Matt O’Riley has successfully completed his Brighton medical and will later today be officially confirmed as their player, signing a five year contract with the Premier League club having another year option in the deal.
Celtic will receive an initial £26 million, thus breaking the Scottish transfer record and there’s also another £4m worth of add-ons within the deal that takes Celtic’s Player of the Year to the ambitious English side. There’s also a sell-on clause within the deal, with the percentage around the 10-15% mark.
And with Brighton having their own lucrative transfer model the chances are, with Matt being such a top talent, that he will shine for the Seagulls and attract interest from the bigger clubs in the Premier League and around Europe at the top level in the Champions League. So don’t be too surprised if there’s another Matt O’Riley windfall coming Celtic’s way a few years down the line.
Matt cost Celtic £1.5m from MK Dons in January 2022 and there was a sell-on clause in that deal, so they too will be rather delighted with a windfall lifeline coming their way, thanks to Matt O’Riley.
Watch him make a huge impact at Brighton in the Premier League and also for Denmark where we will almost certainly become a mainstay in their midfield as the side is rebuild after Euro2024.
The very best of luck Matt! Go smash it down there…we’ll be watching!
