No doubts about it in my mind, Matt is currently the best player in the country…

Matt O’Riley has been instrumental for the side since the start of the season. The midfielder’s ability has never been in doubt, but he’s notably went up a level since the arrival of Brendan Rodgers.

Matt had an unbelievable record of 14 assists last campaign across all competitions as we won the treble, but this season he’s added goals and equalled his tally of four goals last term already as well as two assists. That’s down to the influence of Brendan Rodgers who has thrown down the gauntlet to Matt in terms of finding the back of the net, and the Danish U21 international has answered with expertise.

So much so his form has led to talk of a call up to the full Danish side and that’s a feather in his cap considering the talent that nation can call upon. It’s not just his goals and assists but his all round play. Particularly at Ibrox where not only did he lay on the assist for Kyogo’s magnificent goal, he covered every blade of grass on the pitch.

He was excellent that day and in just about every game so far this season. It’s that form that’s made him the best player in the country at this moment and long may it continue.

Hopefully Michael Nicholson can get Matt O’Riley signed up on a new, long term contract alongside Callum McGregor, Kyogo, Daizen Maeda, Liel Abada, Anthony Ralston and hopefully Reo Hatate, although the news from Brendan Rodgers on that one was not as positive as we’d all have hoped.

Just an Ordinary Bhoy

Meanwhile Thursday 19 October is going to be a very special day for The Celtic Star at the Kerrydale Suite at Celtic Park, so please save the date…He’s got no hair but we don’t care!
