Former Celtic hero Frank McAvennie has warned John Kennedy that he needs to “liven up” if he wants to become Celtic’s manager on a permanent basis. McAvennie was speaking to Football Insider for his weekly column with the media outlet and made the remark when discussing the situation surrounding the Celtic hotseat.

He feels that the dugout has been bereft of the old school passion this season and the former Celtic striker went on to say that he would struggle to get up for a game under Kennedy’s management. McAvennie also stated that Kennedy should learn his trade elsewhere as he is associated with the failure to win ten league titles in a row.

“I do not think John Kennedy will get it (the job),” McAvennie said. “He is not the right man for the job and that is no disrespect to him. He is part of the problem though because he has been there through this terrible season.”

Talking of an alternative option(s), McAvennie made the following comments:

“Celtic need a clear-out. They need brand new management. The players need to go into pre-season with different people and fresh ideas. They need new players, a new manager and new coaching staff.

“I would personally like to see John go away and get a manager’s job where he can make mistakes. Celtic are too big. I know John, and he wouldn’t liven me up for a game. God, liven up.”
