Metal object thrown at Greg Taylor and Celtic physio, Celtic fans hit by bottles

A metal object was thrown at Greg Taylor and a member of the Celtic physio team during Monday’s Glasgow Derby game at Ibrox. Celtic fans located in the corner of the Broomloan Stand and Govan Stand were subject to missiles being thrown into them – including bottles.

A Celtic source has confirmed to The Celtic Star that Taylor, who received treatment earlier in the first half, had a metal object – said to be like a bottle opener – thrown towards him as he was down. This is not the first time that a Celtic player or official has come under attack from Rangers supporters. Back in April, another Celtic member of staff was hit by a glass bottle while going down the tunnel and a bottle was thrown into Joe Hart’s six-yard box.

Not only this, but a Celtic fan required to receive treatment after a bottle struck them to the head. The incident occurred as the visitors celebrated Kyogo’s late equaliser. This is just one example of the objects that were thrown into the Celtic end from the Broomloan Stand and the Govan Rear and Govan Front. Lighters, coins, pies and drink containers were thrown at the 700 supporters. Club officials were present and fed back the information to Rangers. The Ibrox club will be informed of the above in an effort to help identify the individual responsible.

Supporters from Dundee United, Hibs and Aberdeen have already described similar behaviour from the home end at Ibrox, all of which constitute a major safety hazard. For a supporter that has been in the new allocation on two occasions, the description of events during Monday’s game is identical to what happened back in April.

In the game, Celtic left Ibrox with a point despite not being at their best. Daizen Maeda opened the scoring for Celtic with an excellent finish. The Japanese Internationalist capitalised on a loose pass from Alfredo Morelos, allowing Maeda to push through, beat James Tavernier and fire the ball beyond Allan McGregor.

Rangers started well in the second half, buoyed on by Celtic’s forced substitution of Taylor. Ryan Kent scored with a tidy finish but Josip Juranovic should’ve done better against Fashion Sakala. Rangers went ahead after Carl Starfelt was adjudged to have fouled Sakala. James Tavernier made no mistake from the spot.

Kyogo grabbed a crucial equaliser for Celtic with a composed finish in the dying stages of the game at Ibrox. Aaron Mooy was picked out by Jota, who worked together to get the ball to Giakoumakis, who had his shot blocked only for the Japanese striker to strike the ball high into the net.

The events in the stands need to be addressed and those responsible must be punished. The SFA and Police may be required to intervene to make sure that supporters are safe to attend matches at Ibrox in future.

  1. Time for Celtic to say keep your tickets until they agree to the old allocation of the broomloan end, and they should be asking the police why they allow this to happen against opposition fans.

I’m in agreement with first message…don’t take the small allocation anymore and keep them out of Celtic Park….they need to bend and bring back original allocation and stop pandering to the fans commonly known as “ Scotlands Shame”
