Middlesbrough to rival Celtic to sign promising Scotland Internationalist

Middlesbrough look set to rival Celtic to sign Bristol City’s Tommy Conway. The Scotland Internationalist  is expected to leave the EFL Championship side after contract talks stalled as they look to avoid losing the attacker for a compensation fee next summer.

According to Northern Echo, Boro are keen on bringing the youngster to the North East but talks have not resulted in an agreement. The report also states that Celtic are monitoring the situation with Brendan Rodgers admitting that he wants three strikers to manage the game time across all competitions.

Conway has 25 goals for Bristol City as well as assisting 6 times in 92 appearances. The striker has been tipped as an up-and-comer from the Championship, a league that offers a good level of competitiveness.

Celtic want two strikers into the club this summer to support Kyogo. The manager described it as two first choice players and a third, young striker to support and supplement in the front line. Conway could fit this profile. Not only would Conway be a player that could develop substantially in the future, he would go towards the UEFA quotas given that he is a Scotland Internationalist.

Celtic have only signed Sinisalo and Schmeichel this summer as the club have addressed the goalkeeping situation. Paulo Bernardo is close to signing on a permanent basis while the club are heavily linked with deals for Hugo Bueno and Adam Idah.

  1. At present Rodgers seems to be using Mikey Johnston as his potential 2nd striker?
Even if idah should become a permanent signing, then that drops Mikey down to 3rd striker, with the option of being used as a wide player also?
But only see Mikey Johnston involvement within our squad, as trying to fill our homegrown quota imo?
If Rodgers is looking at the homegrown situation, then a choice between Mikey and Conway?
Then believe Conway would be the better option imo?
Even if not eligible for the CL squad, still would possibly have a role to play within our SPFL campaign?
Rotation with our strikers will be in operation more so next season, with the amount of game time involved for our players, in order to keep them fresher over the course of a season?
Already have 5 wide options available, which I suspect will change also, before the window shuts ?
So Conway as a potential replacement for Mikey Johnston within our squad, would make sense imo?
