MIKEY JOHNSTON has revealed that he is injury free following a knee injury sustained in January. Speaking in an Instagram Q&A on the Celtic FC page, the 21-year-old said that he was fit again after spending a period on the sidelines.
The youngster pulled up in a win over St Johnstone at McDiarmid Park as Neil Lennon prepared to bring Patryk Klimala on. Odsonne Edouard was replaced instead meaning that Johnston remained on the park only to pull up again a few minutes later and be forced from the field.
“Injury is fine now. Rehab wasn’t ideal with everything that’s gone on, but I’ve done everything I possibly can to come back stronger.”
Neil Lennon was less than impressed with Johnston, as having used his three subs, finished the game with ten men. The game was already won but it irritated the manager as he asked Johnston if he was okay to continue only for the player to say he was.
After the game, Lennon was less than impressed. As reported by the Scotsman, the manager confirmed that the injury to the winger would be long term as a result of what appeared to be ligament damage.
“It will be long term. It was a bad twist. He says there was contact but it doesn’t look like there was contact. It looks like he has twisted the knee and there is a bit of swelling there and ligament damage.”
It is a boost for Celtic ahead of next season – whenever that may be – that Johnston has returned to fitness as ligament damage can often rule players out for up to and over a year.
