Money Talks – Celtic support currently holds all the Aces ahead of Season Ticket Renewals

“If you can keep your head when everybody around you is losing his……then it is very probable that you don’t understand the situation”…

So the man who wasn’t there, Ian Bankier (who?), announced that….the review is being….wait for it……reviewed. The People’s Front of Judea would have organised, planned and executed the necessary change long before this board have decided on a plan of action, which leads to the deep frustration amongst a majority of fans, both mild and vociferous.

Exactly what are the tenets of this plan? What stiles need to be jumped before we are on the home straight to a decision? The answer may be Catch-22 to the board but far plainer for you or I to evaluate.

If there’s a burst pipe in a house, does a landlord leave things for a few months until a new tenant comes in, then do the place up? By that time, the damage would have spread, meaning a new wall and support beams too. So why are the club waiting to make momentous decisions?

Our first priority should be a Director of Football, appointed as early as possible, preferably within a matter of weeks. Because let’s face it, a new manager will not be appointed until the Director of Football is in place. Looking at the approach, the club seem to be wanting to reassure the fans that this big decision will simply take time but the commercial fallout of this languid approach cannot surely escape their attention?

Until a Director of Football and new Manager have been appointed, season ticket sales will not be at an acceptable level.

There are two other caveats to consider here; firstly, given that us fans are all over social media with our opinions and intel, given that anyone from fan sites to national press discuss the managerial situation and plan for the future, given that the awareness of season ticket renewal must surely prompt the board for an answer, given that the Celtic SLO JP Taylor has indicated that he has directly urged the club to conclude their review and reveal it, given all these things you would think it’s very clear they need these new appointments in place.

The other aspect is commercial; surely the sooner the appointments are made, fans will be more likely to buy season tickets and the new team might even have time to successfully plan for next season, while looking at the current structure with regards to footballing matters.

If the general populace can see these things, why can’t the board? And if they can, why is there a lack of conclusion in their plans to appoint a new person and by extension, change the management set-up?

This season is over; it’s a busted flush and if we can accept this, then we plan ahead for the next 10 years and beyond. We plan for helping more youth make the transition from academy to first team. We sell who we have to sell and buy who we have identified as necessary. We plan for how to fare better in Europe. We plan for a better scouting network. We plan to make sure that we can successfully look at how to deliver results on and off the pitch.

And we cannot plan for this without a new DOF and manager in place. Given that there are so many other factors tied into this (getting money out of us for next season is a key one), then you would think that the review is not something that can simply be considered and done “all in good time” but something that is imperative and imminent.

One thing which might help is indeed the season ticket renewals. Money talks.
