Christopher Jullien after passing a rigorous medical has now signed a three year deal with French side Montpellier, according to breaking news via “-L’Equipe. “Celtic Glasgow central defender Christopher Jullien has signed a three-year contract with Montpellier after successfully passing his medical examination,” the French news outlet reports.
Jullien joined Celtic from Toulouse in a £7m transfer in July 2019, replacing Dedryck Boyata who himself is in the news after completing his move from Hertha Berlin, who he joined after leaving Celtic, to sign for the Belgium Champions Club Brugge.
Jullien starred for Celtic in his first season scoring the winner against Lazio under the lights at Celtic Park in the Europa League before grabbing the winner at Hampden in the League Cup final against theRangers in December 2019.
A year later he injured his knee in a collision with the goalpost at Celtic Park in a Scottish Premiership win over Dundee United and despite one or two cameo appearances against Raith Rovers in the League Cup last season and in pre-season games this year, it was clear that Jullien was not part of Ange Postecoglou’s plans and he leaves Celtic with his head held high.
Celtic will receive a transfer fee of around one million euros plus add-ons for Jullien but will not recoup their initial investment of around £7m paid to Toulouse in July 2019.
But Christopher Jullien was also one of the highest earners at the club so getting him off the books will free up cash to perhaps complete the deal to secure Moritz Jenz on a permanent contract at the end of the season, after the German’s loan from Lorient is completed.
