Brendan Rodgers has selected his 25 man squad for the Champions League and as expected has included his new summer signings as the Celtic manager looks to make an impact in the new format of club football’s elite tournament.

Celtic begin the campaign with a home match against Slovan Bratislava on Wednesday 18 September and Celtic Park is bound to be rocking that night with the Hoops looking to win a first ever opening match in the Champions League.

The games come thick and fast after that with mouth-watering matches against Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig, Atalanta, Club Brugge, Dinamo Zagreb, Young Boys and last but not least Aston Villa

New signing Auston Trusty makes the squad.

Record signing Arne Engels plus fellow late arrivals Alex Valle, Auston Trusty and Luke McCowan are included in the Celtic squad. Maik Nawrocki makes it as does Adam Montgomery, that one is to do with the home grown quota.

That left Brendan with a difficult decision on who wouldn’t make it and unfortunately for Norwegian midfielder Odin Thiago Holm, he has drawn the short straw. Holm did play in the Champions League last season, featuring in the away games in Rotterdam where he got sent off with Celtic already down to ten men, and also in Madrid where we came off the bench when the game was already well beyond Celtic.

Had the UEFA rules been different there is little doubt that Holm would have been included ahead of Montgomery but there was that could have been done and the player will have to look to make a contribution domestically.
