As expected Moritz Jenz has now left Celtic to return to his parent club, Lorient on France before an expected move to Bundesliga side Schalke. German born Jenz was relatively unknown in his homeland as he had spent his formative years in the game at the Fulham Academy, ironically alongside Matt O’Riley.
Jenz though gained widespread media attention during his Champions League campaign in Germany especially around Celtic matches against RB Leipzig. So his time at Celtic may well have been very useful indeed in furthering his career even it that isn’t going to be with Celtic.
This evening Moritz posted this emotional farewell message on his Instagram account. “Dear Celtic family, I’m sad to say that I’m leaving the club after a short time, it’s been for me a fantastic period at the club. I’m very proud and honoured to have been part of the Celtic Football Club. Like I said at the beginning of my time it was and it has been a dream.
“The fans of Celtic will always have a special place in my heart, they are kind, honest and passionate. I want to thank everyone that works at Celtic, from the staff to the people taking care of us players in the stadium and in the training ground.
“I’m very lucky to have been part of such a fantastic squad of players, it’s really a TEAM and Family Everyone is fighting for each other to make history for this great Club and I’m gonna miss them so much!
A massive thank you to Mr Postecoglou for giving me the opportunity to play for this fantastic club. It has been an honour to work with him and his team. Well I guess I have to cut it short now. Here we go again. I am on the road again. Hopefully one day I can come back to Paradise.”
Moritz Jenz was on a season long loan deal at Celtic but after being thrown in at the deep end early in the season and doing very well it has to be said, even chipping in with a few goals, he dropped out of the picture after the World Cup and is now going to develop his career, probably in Germany where first team football is a priority. That wasn’t really going to happen at Celtic in the short to medium term so it’s a tough call by all parties but probably best for the player and also the football club.
You’ll always be welcome when you come back Mercedes. All the best.
