Nat Phillips will likely return to Liverpool in January when his loan deal expires with Celtic. Jurgen Klopp’s defensive options were limited as Joel Matip was ruled out with an ACL injury. Now, the central defender could be headed back to Merseyside to supplement Virgil Van Dijk, Konate and Gomez with the Premier League leaders.

Since arriving from Anfield, Phillips has made eight appearances and he was at fault for a couple of the goals conceded in Celtic’s last two games. The big defender has come in despite not playing a lot of games and has not impressed.
However, Brendan Rodgers has been full of praise for the 26-year-old due to his commitment in training. The Irishman has utilised Phillips as his third defender behind Cameron Carter-Vickers and Liam Scales. With Maik Nawrocki and Gustaf Lagerbielke struggling to be involved in match day squads, Phillips departure would hopefully improve their efforts in training as they look to get into the first team.
