NEIL LENNON has said that he may block International call-ups for Celtic stars due to the Government restrictions on travelling to and from certain countries. The Irishman said that the club couldn’t risk players having to quarantine for two weeks on return and that he may need to speak to the relevant associations to block the call up of players like Odsonne Edouard and Vasilis Barkas.
As reported by the Glasgow Times, Lennon revealed that there would need to be discussions as the club cannot afford to quarantine if no special dispensation is granted by the Government.
“Absolutely not, no.
“I only became aware of it on Monday night, so I’ll talk to our Covid officer after the game against Ferencvaros and take a view of whether the players will get special dispensation or whether they would have to be quarantined.
“This is something the club are going to have to have dialogue with relevant associations.
“We will have to discuss it after Wednesday night and prepare for that over the next few days before the Motherwell game, and have a chat to the individual players as well, and tell them it may or may not be able to happen.”
France’s U21s face trips to Georgia and Azerbaijan, both of whom are currently on the quarantine list for Scotland. Celtic have two games before the international break – Hungarian Champions Ferencvaros and Motherwell at the weekend.
The club still hope that they will be allowed some supporters into the stadium for the clash with Motherwell with 700 supporters hoping to make the return to Paradise five months since they last managed a visit.
