Former Celtic manager Neil Lennon has – quite incredibly given his exploits in European football this season – tonight been sacked by Cypriot side Omonia. A statement issued on the club’s official website in Greek reads something like this:
We inform you that we have agreed with Mr. Neil Lennon to stop our collaboration.
Mr. Lennon took over the technical leadership of our team last March, at a difficult time and managed to lead us to winning the cup and then to the historic qualification against KAA GENT and our entry into the UEFA Europa League groups, where we came close to historic results against REAL SOCIEDAD and MANCHESTER UNITED.
Unfortunately, the ongoing competitive instability and the significant losses of points in the championship, are the main reasons that made us decide to end our partnership.
Mr. Lennon has written his name in the history of OMONIA and deserves the respect and recognition of all of us. Our paths separate, but the memories of our collaboration will unite us forever.
We sincerely thank Mr. Lennon for his contribution and wish him every success in his future career.

Neil Lennon has made incedible inroads in European football for Omonoia, winning home and away against Belgium side KAA Gent and only last week came within a few seconds of achieving a draw against the mighty Manchester United at Old Trafford.
Cypiot football is rather crazy when it comes to hiring and firing managers and I am sure we reported that when Neil Lennon got the Omonoia job seven months ago there was advice that he shouldn’t bother unpacking his suitcase as these appointments seldom last long enough to make that task worthwhile.
Away from the madness on Cyprus surely the facts will speak for themselves and the former Celtic boss will be back in work soon. Both Adam Matthews and Gary Hooper, who played for Lennon at Celtic during his first spell as Celtic mannager are both currently at Omonoia. Presuably this evening’s news will be a shock to both former Celtic players.
