Neil Lennon has told Ange Postecoglou to hire his own Assistant Manager as the Australian manager looks forward to his first competitive action as manager on Tuesday night versus FC Midtjylland. The former Celtic midfielder-turned-manager has said that Postecoglou will have his work and life invaded as a result of the scrutiny that the job brings.

Speaking to TalkSport (via The Sun), Lennon said that the backroom staff that he has inherited will help but Postecoglou should hire his own No.2 for someone to lean on.

“There’s going to be a lot of analysis, scrutiny and invasion of his life and work.

“He’s very experienced having worked on the other side of the world, and he’ll bring a freshness to the club which is probably what is needed after a decade of success and a disappointing season last year.

“He’s got a blank canvas really, so he can come in and stamp his own ideas on the game.

“Some of the staff who were there last year will help him along.

“It will be interesting to see if he does eventually bring someone in with him because for a job of that size you do need somebody to lean on now and again so it’ll be interesting to see if he brings someone in to support him.”

Postecoglou has spoken well since arriving as manager, the 55-year-old wants to play a high-intensity style of play that will excite the support. The manager said that he will look at bringing his own staff in when he has had a chance to properly evaluate his options.

After last season, the club needed a major reset with a new group of players arriving to help regain the three trophies relinquished last season. A fresh slate is needed with some players that were not given a look-in under Lennon hoping to flourish under Ange.

Some supporters may still feel a bit aggrieved at Lennon voicing his opinion on his successor given the horrific display last season. With that said, Lennon won ten titles with Celtic, eight Scottish Cups and three league cups in two spells as manager and as a player. He will always be a Celtic legend but it was clear that his time as manager was up. Lennon will be recognised for all that he has done for the club but it may take some time as this season has been incredibly tough for everyone involved.
