Celtic FC Foundation’s next overseas challenge – the Camino De Santiago Trek – is now just weeks away…

And today it’s been announced that former Celtic captain and manager Neil Lennon will be taking on the challenge, alongside another former, Peter Grant and the rest of the Foundation’s wonderful Camino Trekkers.

Neil Lennon is a great friend of Celtic FC Foundation, having supported various events over the years Speaking ahead of the challenge, Lenny said: “I’m absolutely over the moon to have signed up to join the group and take on the Camino De Santiago with Celtic FC Foundation.

“It’s something I have been very keen to do on a personal level for a long time and when I first saw that the Foundation were taking a group, I was desperate to join them. Unfortunately, the timing didn’t work at that point but when the opportunity came up once again a few weeks ago, I jumped at it.

“Being able to take on this challenge will be really special for me but to do it on behalf of the Foundation and help raise some funds in the process makes it even more special.

“It’s such an important part of the Club and the work that the team at the Foundation do is truly phenomenal, so it really is a pleasure to offer my support wherever possible.

“It’s going to be a great physical challenge but I’m really looking forward to taking it on, alongside a great bunch of people.”

The trip will see this adventurous Celtic group trek the final 116 kilometres of the famous Camino De Santiago pilgrimage route, over five days. They will trek across the green rolling landscapes of rural Galicia, discover local traditions and enjoy the unique atmosphere. Starting from Sarria, participants will take in charming villages, forests and rural countryside, while visiting many picturesque churches along the way.

The final destination is the magical Santiago Old Town, a wonderful UNESCO World Heritage site, home to the stunning Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela.
