Kuhn certainly looks the part, let’s hope he’s the first of a few new faces with a left-back and striker looking like joining him at Celtic if the club’s plans come to fruition.
According to reports earlier this week Celtic is one of a host of clubs to have a credible interest in Rapid Wien winger Nicolas Kuhn and it now looks like we are in pole position to sign the German winger to make him Brendan Rodgers’ first signing of the January window.
The Austrian side yesterday confirmed they have received a bid for the German, and that is almost certainly from Celtic. That bid is believed to be just Rapid Vienna’s valuation, and as The Celtic Star reported last night, the clubs have re-entered negotiations and it looks likely an agreement could be reached very soon to bring Kuhn to Celtic.
Kuhn is a former German youth international who can count Bayern Munich and Ajax among his former clubs, although he never actually made a first team appearance for either. He is naturally left footed, comfortable on either foot and plays mainly on the right wing although he’s usually played on the flanks, he can play the number ten role behind the striker.
He’s got a great burst of pace and he likes to take on defenders, something we have lacked since the departure of Jota. With Daizen Maeda, Yang and Marco Tilio away on international duty and Liel Abada just back from injury, a fresh face in that department would be very welcoming indeed. It will also provide us with much needed depth.
And we have already reported on both Liel Abada and Marco Tilio possibly leaving Celtic in this window, either on loan deals or even a permanent move in the case of Abada.
Signing Kuhn would be a decent start to this windown and hopefully he’s the first of three new faces to arrive at Celtic this month.
