ABERDEEN have not received a £5million bid for their defender Scott McKenna. News of this bid was reported in the Scottish Sun this morning and lazily picked up by some Celtic sites but the Dons have confirmed that the report is not true and that there has NOT been a new bid from Celtic.

The local paper the Evening Express has confirmed this with contacts at Aberdeen. “Reports this morning suggested the Dons had rebuffed an approach for the 22-year-old Scotland international, however, club sources have denied any offer was made.

“Last summer, the Reds rejected a £7 million bid for McKenna from Aston Villa, with the Hoops, Hull City and Stoke City all failing in attempts to get Aberdeen to sell their prized asset.”

Celtic as the above reports mentions, did bid for McKenna last year but are unlikely to match the £10million asking price that Aberdeen are looking for for the Scotland defender.

Neil Lennon has emphasised that the need to recruit additional defensive players is his priority and with Kieran Tierney the subject to intense transfer speculation the need to secure top quality additions as quickly as possible is apparent.

On KT, why not give him a contract extension for an additional two years, increasingly his salary by doing so, let him see out the push for ten in a row and then if he does want to go, he can leave at that stage, with Celtic getting the huge transfer fee that Peter Lawwell covets…

Just a thought.
