Celtic will NOT be signing out-of-contract Scott McKenna, despite reported interest from Brendan Rodgers’ side in the 27-year-old.

McKenna was left out of contract by Nottingham Forest after he was frozen out of the first team.

He was included in Steve Clarke’s squad for the Euros after spending the second half of last season on loan at FC Copenhagen but was still left without a club after the Danish outfit opted against making a move for his signature.

As a Scottish international and a player who has featured for outfits such as Ayr United, Aberdeen and Alloa Athletic, it probably came as no surprise when he was linked with both Celtic and Rangers.

Former Celtic player Andy Walker even made his thoughts known, saying that he thinks McKenna and Cameron Carter-Vickers could have been the perfect centre-back pairing.

He told the Go Radio Football Show: “Scott McKenna is out there. He is free, he has Champions League experience and plays for Scotland.

“I think he is a decent player and would be worthy of a Celtic jersey and I think he would improve Celtic defensively.”

McKenna shut down the possibility of a move quite quickly when asked about the speculation. He said: “In terms of the speculation, that’s all it’s ever been. It has never really gone any further than that, and until there is anything that’s more than that I don’t really have anything to think about.”

It now appears that McKenna will join up with La Liga side Las Palmas. The player is apparently in Gran Canaria to finalise the move.

Speculation on Celtic’s incomings is still running rampant. No concrete links have been reported as of yet but the general feeling among the supporters is that a few more signings would be nice.

Yesterday, the permanent arrival of Paulo Bernardo was confirmed by the club.

Kasper Schmeichel also spoke to the media in Scotland, including The Celtic Star, for the first time.

The deal to sign Adam Idah is still up in the air, with no accurate updates as of yet. Celtic has also been linked with a second attempt to sign Liverpool left-back Owen Beck.
