Today is the day. Let’s ignore all the noise and concentrate on what we do best, and that of course is winning and winning well, playing our football the Glasgow Celtic way…
Today is the day. The Premier Sports League Cup Final against our ‘noisy neighbours’ and the chance to win the first trophy of the season.
There’s been loads of noise surrounding this game, more so than usual due to the Ibrox sides ‘revival’ and this has made them more confident than they otherwise would have been, and they’ve been shouting from the rooftops about how they are going to conquer the world.
It’s quite a contrast when you cast your mind back to just a few weeks ago when both the supporters and SMSM were calling for big Phil’s head on a stick, and the removal of everyone inside Ibrox. Those Ibrox podcasts were comedy gold and they will be back to being festively funny next week after a Celtic victory today.
Remarkably they’ve gone from obscurity to a team who will win the domestic treble and the Europa League. Players who were seen as duds are now valued at £50 million! You couldn’t make this stuff it up but then again with the comedy club replacing the corrupt one in 2012 nothing should really surprise us.
Meanwhile Celtic are sitting nine points clear of Aberdeen at the top of the league (with a game in hand too) plus we’re 11 points clear of third placed theRangers. Celtic are unbeaten in the last four games in the top level of European football and have been going about our business quietly, concentrating on doing what they do best, and that of course is winning our next match. Today that will bring the League Cup home to Paradise and after a good clean it can be restored to the trophy cabinet alongside it’s regular roommates the Scottish Cup and Scottish Premiership trophy with the European Cup won in 1967 sitting close by.
Of course it’s a final, and it can go either way, but we should be very confident of our chances, despite all the noise surrounding the game. Nothing they say will have any bearing on Celtic, today it is all about ourselves. We have the finest team in Scotland and it’s days like these that this becomes the harsh reality for those who challenge us.
Let’s get this won Celtic.
