No need to worry about Augsburg manager’s comments on Arne Engels

Augsburg manager’s words earlier today don’t mean a thing. What else could he say? Brendan was saying exactly the same about Matt O’Riley last week…

The panic stricken element amongst our supporters are beside themselves with worry after FC Augsburg manager Jess Thorup spoke about the future of Celtic target Arne Engels.

Thorup said: “ I think he will be in our squad for our next game against Heidenheim on Sunday. I heard about the rumours, don’t know what will happen in the next couple of days.”

That to me sounds like a man who knows as much as us regarding the situation surrounding the Belgian under 21 international, which is absolutely nothing. Indeed Brendan Rodgers said basically the same thing about Matt O’Riley leading up to the St Mirren game, and the next day he was heading to Brighton in a £30 million deal.

So don’t fret about Thorup’s words, he’s just saying that he knows nothing of the situation and he’s planning for his side’s next match in the same way he always does, and that is to pick the best players which are available to him. Just like Brendan said to Sky Sports last week that Matt O’Riley would be in his squad for the St Mirren game as things stand.

Whatever deal is being negotiated in the background at the minute, the manager will have little or no input. Engels may well be in his manager’s thoughts for their next match but that could all change today, tomorrow or knowing Celtic on Friday afternoon!

  1. Augsburg must have been prepared to sell Engels in the first instance, or else they wouldn’t have even entered into the negotiations stage in the first place?
There manager would have known that was the situation, so the potential deal is out of his hands at this stage?
Money and potential payment structure could be a potential issue, but fail to see how?
When we are in a position to pay the agreed fee, in one installment?
Groundwork already done, regarding personal terms, so in theory it should be a deal that gets concluded imo?
Yet can never be certain until an announcement is actually made, and not a fan whatsoever of all the games that go on during the last stages of the transfer window whatsoever?
Still remain unimpressed that we are still operating in last minute. Com, especially when there shouldn’t have been a reason to operating in such a manner imo?

  2. Reading now that Sheff Utd refuse £5m bid for Trusty, only at Celtic would we sell Johnston to a club that has someone we want and yet didn’t join the dots on both signings.
Celtic probably afraid Sheff Utd then didn’t want Johnston………………….Fckn amateurs
