No surprise that there is significant interest in Matt O’Riley

No surprise that Matt O’Riley is receiving interest, but we must rebuff it at all costs…

Matt O’Riley was apparently the centre of a bid by a Serie A side, reportedly Bologna. According to a report in Scottish Sun this morning,  the Italian side made a play for the Celtic midfielder although the figure that was bid wasn’t confirmed.

Regardless of the size if the bid and indeed any subsequently improved bid, Matt O’Riley should not be allowed to leave at any price. Celtic have already turned down the Italian bid and that is good news. We are simply  not in a strong enough position squad wise to be selling any of our most valuable players this late in the window.

O’Riley is a great player and he looks as if he’s improving and flourishing under Brendan Rodgers and more importantly he looks as if he’s enjoying playing his football at Celtic.

I reckon that Matt will go to another level under Brendan Rodgers and he has started to add more goals to his game. He’s already got a great record for assists and if he keeps getting the goals he will become a crucial player for Celtic under the new manager.

Matt will in due course get a big move.  As he fulfils his potential, that’s inevitable, but at this moment it’s best for him and the club that he stays put. Just like Reo Hatate, Matt is contracted to 2026 so there is no rush to sell. The ball is very much firmly in the club’s court.

Selling Jota and Carl Starfelt in this window is plenty.  No more please, Celtic.
