Whenever the Celtic hot seat becomes vacant you get all sorts of names bandied about and this time around is no exception. One left field suggestion has been another Aussie, Kevin Muscat. Muscat, as we know was a horrible kind of player most renowned for his spell at Wolves and he also as we know had a spell at the old Rangers.

I wouldn’t take him at the club and it’s not because of his Ibrox past, far form it. Like most Celtic supporters I would welcome a guy who I thought would be a success at the club despite what side he did and didn’t play for. It wouldn’t even enter the mind.

Just like Ange Postecoglou, Muscat has made his name by winning trophies at club level in his native Australia, and currently with Ange’s old side Yokohama F. Marinos.

That’s where the similarities end though. Ange was also tried and tested in international football leading his nation to the World Cup finals and of course victory in the Asian Cup.

I’m sure Muscat is a talented coach, but he would be expected to work the same wonders as Ange and that is not ideal. The pressure would be huge on him from the start.

Ideally we want someone with experience of football management in this country or in European football with no connection to our former manager. Someone who can come in and hit the ground running straight away with his own ideas. I have high reservations of Kevin Muscat being that man. I doubt it will him though, hopefully I’m right on this one.
