Norwich a stepping stone to Premier League for Celtic target, argues Ian Harte

Ex-Ireland left-back Ian Harte thinks that Adam Idah should AVOID a return to Celtic in favour of proving himself in England!

While Adam Idah is getting plenty of encouragement to get himself back to Celtic asap, notably from Republic of Ireland legend James McCarthy, there’s a contrary argument that Idah might be better proving himself at Norwich City in order to catch the attention of a Premier League club.

How a season in the English Championship, at a club where he struggled for game-time, competes with the glory and the dream of playing for Celtic, especially in the Champions League remains to be seen. However you would imagine that after his talks with Brendan Rodgers, Idah knows exactly what’s ahead of him at Celtic and how important he will be to the team should he sign a permanent deal in the summer.

However Ian Harte reckons that there’s a valid argument for Idah being better served resuming his career at Carrow Road in the Championship next season.

Speaking to The Celtic Star on behalf of Offshore Poker Sites, Harte argued the point. “Adam Idah was one of the hottest properties only a few years back, but for whatever reason, it didn’t work out with the manager at Norwich. That manager is no longer there now and he’s gone up to Celtic and scored goals but I’m sure he’s going to be chomping at the bit to get back to Norwich to prove himself.

“It’s a clean slate for all those players at Norwich and he now needs to prove how good he is, have a really good pre-season and come back as fit as he can. Not to be disrespectful to Norwich or anyone, but every football player wants to play at the highest level. So Norwich could be a stepping stone for him to get back into the Premier League.

“There are some difficult games up in Scotland, but it always seems to boil down to Celtic and Rangers. I’m delighted that Celtic won the league because I’m a massive Celtic fan. But I think the Premier League is the best league in the world. That’s why all the top top-quality players want to come to the Premier League. For Adam, he might need to go out and score 20 goals next season at Norwich a bit like Teemu Pukki did and get bought, whether it’s by a Crystal Palace or somebody else, that’s the way he can step up to the plate.”

Celtic supporters are eager to see Idah return for the next campaign but hopes of a permanent deal were diminished when the striker took to Instagram, bidding farewell to the club. Idah’s post read: “Bhoys, thank you. The last few months have been amazing, and I’ve loved being part of this special team. I’ve made memories and friends for life! Thank you for all the support whilst I’ve been here and best of luck for the future.”

Adam Idah may have to make his mark at Norwich if a deal can’t be done with Celtic but there is still time for Brendan Rodgers to strike a deal for the Irishman and remember that the window doesn’t open until the middle of next month.

  1. Teemu Pukki played one season in the EPL – for Norwich. No big money move to any of the top teams and he was still with Norwich when they got relegated. So, Harte is talking pish.

  2. Pukki played 2 seasons in the premier league. Scored double figures in both 11+11 so 22 goals overall in a club which was clearly the worst in the league both times. He was selected as the best player in the championship when he scored 29 goals. He scored 26 goals in his second championship season. He wanted to move away from Norwich before his fifth season, Norwich refused to sell him. Pukki had attitude and integration problems in Celtic, he never settled there. Pukki was fantastic for Norwich and Brondby. Not so fantastic for Schalke, HJK, Celtic, Sevilla and now for Minnesota. His national team career is similar, from underperformer suddenly to hero.

Republic of Ireland legend James McCarthy?? Wage thief more like. Why is his opinion valid ? Maybe in terms of getting a stupid deal for Idah like he himself got ! James should be focusing on getting back into football somewhere.🍀
