Ryan Christie is the second of the Celtic Want Aways to be linked with a move to Premier League bound Norwich City this summer. The Celtic Star a week ahead of the mainstream media told you that Norwich had joined Newcastle United in enquiring about Celtic’s Norwegian defender Kristoffer Ajer and now the Canaries have according to today’s Daily Mail are keen on adding Scotland star Ryan Christie to their key transfer targets this summer.
And its not as if Celtic have not tried their best to convince the former Inverness Caley Thistle midfielder that his future should be at the club. Indeed an incredible £30k a week offer – which would represent a huge rise from his current salary level – has he hear been rejected and Celtic are now resigned to losing the player in the coming weeks, with his mind fixed on a move to England.
Burnley too remain admirers of Christie but will not be able to firm up on competing with Norwich until their Premier League status is determined. That might give Norwich a chance to get the deal done and Christie will be able to talk to his old Aberdeen pal and current Scotland teammate Kenny McLean.
Christie’s performances this season have frustrated the Celtic support with many believing he’s had his eye on a move to England for the entire campaign. With his contract expiring in January 2022, Celtic are not going to allow him to simply run his contract down and leave for free at the start of next year.
And the player is unlikely to want to hang around in Glasgow awaiting a winter move. Best for everyone if this can get sorted and when pen gets put to paper maybe Charlie will get round to opening this bottle of champagne he’s had on ice for twenty years.
Many Celtic fans will hope that it’s corked. Here’s Charlie appearing on a podcast last week, and of course Celtic and his boy gets a mention….
