It is never nice to see a pair injured, especially as they were likely to be part of Scotland’s Euro 2020 team for the upcoming summer tournament. However, Norwich City’s Kenny McLean was forced off the pitch as the Canaries lifted the EFL Championship trophy earlier today meaning that he will be a doubt to be included in Steve Clarke’s squad.
This news may benefit David Turnbull, Celtic’s breakthrough star and his ambitions to be included in the squad of 26 for the tournament. Clarke will likely hold off making any decision until he has the information in front of him regarding who is fit and who is nearing fitness but a serious knee injury of this nature may leave McLean sidelined for some time.
Turnbull has been one of Celtic’s better players this season and provided the spark in a season where quality has been thin on the ground. Clarke previously said that the midfield was well stocked when asked why Turnbull had been omitted so perhaps this news may need to force his hand in the next few weeks, which is a positive for the player.
Elsewhere, UEFA have confirmed that they will allow nations to bring squads of 26 players meaning that Leigh Griffiths and James Forrest, who have struggled for game time this year but have been part of recent squads can make the final cut when Clarke decides his team in a few weeks.
