Rangers fans renewed confidence since the arrival of Steven Gerrard has hit the jackpot on the “Bullshit Detector” following the Record’s Rangers Blogger Alex Mooney piece today.
In summation Alex has told how Celtic have a great team, great manager, slick business model, riches beyond the dreams of anyone else in Scotland.
There’s always a “but” though. Alex’s masterful theory is that Gerrard’s attitude is going take the title out of Celtic’s grasp. Not money, not good players, not a UEFA Coaching Licence but sheer attitude. Listen, Gerrard is certainly a winner and his footballing achievements are well praised and documented. No-one can take this away from him.
This is no more than an inane ramble by a guy given a platform to spout garbage on the site of a once respected newspaper. Its click-bait in its poorest form – there is no real argument on HOW Gerrard will overcome Celtic and Brendan Rodgers. The Editorial Staff at the paper has thrown him under the bus by allowing him to concoct such a lame piece.
Alex, like many of his fellow fans forgets that he’s here to manage and not play. He’s here as a manager, a job he’s never done before. You wouldn’t give someone a Sales Directors job because they did okay in the Telesales Team for a year.
There’s no doubt in my mind that Gerrard will be relishing the task ahead. But once the honeymoon period is over he will be under intense scrutiny from not only the Scottish Press but for once, their English counterparts and beyond.
Alex tells us that: “Off the pitch, he has the charisma and credibility that only comes from a glittering career. He’s been there, done that and then some.
He also handles the media well – concise, insightful, intelligent. No daft promises.”
Most footballers that have played at the highest level are “Media savvy” – this is because they are trained to do so. He’ll be guided by a PR Team too but who is going to guide him through his apprenticeship at Rangers?
We’re reliably informed that Gerrard has amassed a fortune of between £60m and £100m (source please Alex). His ramblings tell us that most Scottish journalists think that Gerrard will be sent packing by Rodgers but alas the great and good of English football know he’ll thrive.
What would they know? Their Nan could Manage Rangers and do the Treble in their first year.
Overall, Alex has been allowed free reign on his hopes and dreams, essentially his wish list.
