Odin Thiago Holm has the makings of a great player

Forget about not having a manager, Odin Thiago Holm has the makings of a great player…

Celtic have all but clinched the signature of Norwegian youngster Odin Thiago Holm from Valerenga for a sum believed to be £2.6 million.

Firstly it can be a bit concerning signing players before a manager is in place, but the club have more than likely been scouting the player for months and are confident in the player’s ability to snap him up.

Secondly it’s been done before, one that sticks out is of course Moussa Dembele who although was paraded with Brendan Rodgers, was a Ronny Deila signing as the Norwegian put all the hard work into the deal. We all know how successful Moussa turned out.

It’s not a new thing for a player to sign for a club currently without a man in charge. As long as the player is talented, any new man will be happy to have any player around the squad.

And thirdly, the sum of £2.6 million is not a small sum for a club like Celtic. The club must be sure he’s going to be a great player or they wouldn’t part with such a sum. A few other big clubs including Liverpool were also interested in the 20 year old, so signing him can only be a good thing.

Fourthly as in the case of Alistair Johnston, Celtic look to be bringing in the replacement before a player is sold, with Josip Juranovic heading to Union Berlin a month or so after the Canada international right back arrived at the club. That might suggest a midfielder moving on with both Matt O’Riley and Reo Hatate attracting considerable interest.

It could however by Aaron Mooy who is not around at Celtic next season with that injury that kept him out of the last few weeks of the season perhaps being more significant that many of us thought.

Let’s hope that Aaron is fine to continue at Celtic next season and that new Bhoy Odin Thiago Holm, who will sign when he gets back from his holiday, turns out to be the real deal.
