Odsonne Edouard’s Here for Ten in a Row – Contract Extension Talks Underway

NEIL LENNON, who was last night confirmed as the Sports Writers’ Manager of the Year, has revealed that Celtic have opened contract extension talks with French striker Odsonne Edouard. This news is hugely encouraging and if it leads to a new contract deal being put in place will mean that the talisman will be here for Ten-in-a-Row at the very least!

Here’s the story from Scotland on Sunday/Scotsman that confirms the news.

“We’re doing everything we can to keep him here for at least another season anyway. I think he is happy here. I think he’s got a fantastic relationship certainly with me and my backroom team and his team-mates. You can see how much the supporters appreciate him as well. I think that’s reciprocated. He’s grown into a top-class striker.

“Of course there is going to be speculation around a player of that quality. But we’re comfortable at the minute with the position we’re in with him. He seems pretty happy and we’re all looking forward to seeing him at training. We’d love to discuss things with him and a few other players as well.”

Amid significant interest from England – where both Arsenal and Tottenham are known admirers of the Celtic striker – a deal to improve Edouard’s current deal while increasing Celtic’s future transfer fee seems a win-win for both the player – who is apparently very keen to play his part in the historic 10IAR campaign – and the club. And every single Celtic supporter will be thrilled, delighted that the player is showing some loyalty and that the club is showing the ambition that sometimes hasn’t always been there in these situations. Anyone old enough to  remember Charlie Nicholas leaving in 1983 will get the point.

And on the ongoing situation involving bringing Fraser Forster back to Celtic for another season long loan, Lenny had this to say: “[A loan for Forster] is one that obviously we would like to do but we will need to take a steer off Southampton on that. Whether we can or not is another thing. It will be down to Southampton but it is certainly an avenue that we would like to pursue.”
