On This Day in 2015, Ronny Deila’s Celtic beat Dundee Utd 2-0 in the League Cup Final, with the goals coming from Kris Commons and James Forrest.

The Celtic side was Gordon, Ambrose, Denayer, van Dijk, Izaguirre, Brown, Bitton, Commons, Johansen, Stokes and Griffiths with Liam Henderson, Forrest and Guidetti coming on from the bench.

The match was refereed by Bobby Madden and the attendance was 49,259, the vast majority, of course, being Celtic minded.

It was far from the most thrilling of all Celtic’c cup final wins. After Kris Commons broke the deadlock just before the half hour mark it was a case of game over. James Forrest ended any Tayside hopes of a late revival on 79 minutes. By that time Jackie McNamara’s side were down to ten men after his captain Sean Dillion was sent off.

Forrest, as well as scoring after coming off the bench managed to miss a late penalty.

This was the first of three consecutive matches between Celtic and Dundee Utd. Three days later Celtic would pile on the agony with a 4-0 win over McNamara’s side in the Quarter Final of the Scottish Cup. Roll on another 3 days and this time it was a 3-0 win for Celtic in the Premiership as Deila’s side charged towards to title.
