On This Day in 2017, Celtic completed a 3-0 win over Anderlecht in The Champions League. Brendan Rodgers’ side travelled to Belgium with the baggage of a history of poor form on the round in Europe. However, they were buoyed by draws the season before against Borussia Monchengladbach and Man City.

Despite a hammering from PSG in the opener of the Champions League that season, it appeared to be different on the road. The game summed up football under Rodgers, patient on the ball, probing the opposition before delivering the killer blow as their shape opened up. The opener for Leigh Griffiths is nothing short of exceptional. The pass from Ntcham, the run and cross from Tierney as well as the movement of Griffiths. It was a well worked goal.

Paddy Roberts made it 2-0 after a deflected shot sent the visiting fans into dreamland. Scott Sinclair sealed a perfect win late on as Celtic’s press forced a mistake from Anderlecht. The prolific winger pressed fired an excellent shot into the roof of the net.

It was an excellent display but given the quality on show, it begs the question of how many of our current players would get into Rodgers’ Celtic teams.
