On This Day in 2019, Celtic battled to a tough win in Paisley against Jim Goodwin’s St Mirren. The Scottish Champions scored two first half goals and appeared to be comfortable against a disciplined Saints side but a late Cameron MacPherson strike made for uncomfortable viewing.

Celtic went ahead through a well worked counter-attack, which fell fortuitously at the feet of Callum McGregor. Vaclav Hladky had done well to keep Celtic at bay but they battled and fought on a chilly Boxing Day in Paisley. Again, Celtic benefitted from the pace of Edouard, who beat the offside trap and allowed Forrest to make it 2-0 to Celtic.

Frimpong, Bolingoli and Ntcham all had efforts saved but no third goal came, even Odsonne Edouard had a goal ruled out. Albeit, it was comfortable for the majority of the match – a deflected free-kick from MacPherson set up a tense end in Paisley.

It was a win that proved vital towards the winning of a 9th successive title. Celtic will visit another bottom two team when they travel to Hamilton today, they will be hopeful that the game this Boxing Day will contribute to the Tenth consecutive league title.
