On This Day: 4 November…
Twitter’s @LilZe85 continues to serve up all the best action from this day throughout Celtic’s history. There are a number of games that happened on this day – wins versus St Johnstone to set a new record, a late win at home to Hearts and all
Today marks a famous day in Celtic’s history – it is the day that the club broke their own 100 year record and went 63 games unbeaten.
St Johnstone 0 Celtic 4 – 2017
After a draining defeat to Bayern Munich, in which Celtic went toe-to-toe with the Bundesliga giants, many were expecting this to be the day that the domestic dominance of Celtic would be stopped.
Scott Sinclair connected to a Stuart Armstrong corner to give the all-conquering Celtic a first half lead. Moussa Dembele scored a neat second, before the Frenchman forced an own goal out of Steven Anderson to make it 3-0 to Celtic. His compatriot, Olivier Ntcham got in on the act in the dying embers of the game to give Celtic a 4-0 victory and see them go 63 games unbeaten.
Celtic 2 Hearts 1 – 2006
Hearts came to Celtic Park in an excellent run of form, they beat the Champions in August at Tynecastle and were hoping for a repeat. With eighteen minutes left to play, Andrius Velicka burst through the Celtic midfield, glided away from the oncoming defenders to slot the ball beyond a helpless Artur Boruc and send the Gorgie faithful wild.
As the clock ran down, there were frustrated calls by the supporters for Celtic to attack. They were rewarded when Jiri Jarosik wrestled his way onto the end of a Nakamura corner and to bring the game level.
Hearts would have been crestfallen that they weren’t leaving Glasgow with all three points but the hammer blow came was still to come. After conceding a corner from a brilliant Nakamura free-kick, Craig Gordon thought his team had earned a point. However, a Nakamura corner found its way to Stephen McManus at the back post – who fluffed his shot, only for Gordon to fumble the shot out the path of the covering Robbie Neilson on the post and give Celtic all three points.
Motherwell 0 Celtic 2 – 1995
Goals from Simon Donnelly and John Collins gave the Celts a deserved 2-0 victory over Motherwell at Fir Park.
