The Centenary season is possibly the greatest Celtic season outside of 1966/67. The club won the domestic double in dramatic circumstances, in what was one of our final triumphs in front of such huge crowds on the old terracing of Parkhead and Hampden.

The Scottish Cup final was held on this day, 14 May 1988, on a blazing hot day at Hampden Park. Dundee Utd were the opponents and they took the lead through Kevin Gallacher, grandson of Celtic legend Patsy Gallacher!

Not to be denied, Celtic equalised in the 76th minute through a McAvennie header. The day was then famously complete in injury time as McAvennie grabbed the winner.

Hampden was a sea of green, white and gold. Prompting Tommy Burns to famously say “They’re there and they’re always there and god bless every one of them.”
