In one of the biggest days of Celtic’s calendar with the first Champions League game of the season approaching, it almost seems a sign of the times when the best defender at Paradise is moving on behind the scenes just four hours before kick-off.
Having been linked with a move away all summer, it seems that Kristoffer Ajer is finally moving on; not to Norwich, Newcastle, Dortmund or Leverksen, all of whom have been heavily linked over the last year or so – but to newly-promoted Premier League side Brentford – who have made the Norwegian their first big money signing of the window.
The transfer has edged on ever so slightly again in the last few minutes, with reports from the ever reliable Sky Sports Scotland confirming that the man who has played 176 league games for the club he joined in 2016 has finally passed his medical with the North-west London side, after he was given permission to travel following his eviction from Celtic’s Champions League squad.
Despite Celtic fans potentially thinking the price they have received is a touch small, it is a decent amount of money into the coffers considering Ajer had just one year left on his deal, and having signed him for £500k, it represents a good deal all round.
