One year ago this very week theRangers were Seville bound as they were getting ready to face Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa league final.

Hordes of Ibrox supporters were heading to Spain and on one flight in particular leaving Glasgow airport, two of our very own players were caught up in it as they had the misfortune to be sharing the same flight as a group of Rangers supporters.

Carl Starfelt and Jota were heading on a well deserved break after helping Celtic clinch the title. Eagled eyed Rangers supporters spotted them and unsurprisingly gave them some stick, Jota in particular.

He was subjected to taunts like “you must be loving life” even having a Union bears sticker placed on his hat as he sat at his seat. It must have made for an uncomfortable flight, but amusing for Jota all the same as he sat with a league winners medal in his pocket.

The Ibrox hordes were of course expecting to win the Europa league, their usual arrogance allowing them to believe the trophy was already in the bag. A forgone conclusion. Nobody had let Eintracht Frankfurt in on it yet.

As we know it didn’t work out that way and thankfully for the footballing world the greatest signing in Scottish footballing history missed a spot kick and handed Frankfurt the trophy.

Jota would have allowed himself a wry smile as he lay on his sun lounger clutching his league winners medal when he heard the news.

Fast forward a year later and his smile will be even wider as his goals and assists have helped Celtic within touching distance of a treble, that’s winning everything bar the Dead Rubber trophy. Three of those goals coming in vital games in the league and cup against the Rangers. One of them just yesterday was voted goal of the season.

He must be loving life indeed.
