LAST NIGHT threatened to derail the Scottish Football kick-off next weekend when it emerged that seven members of St Mirren’s staff were confirmed positive with COVID-19. The Paisley side throw a spanner into the league starting plans but none of their players have, as of yet, been struck down by the deadly virus.
How does this impact Celtic? Well, last week Hamilton Accies played St Mirren in a pre-season friendly which sparked fears that Celtic’s opening day fixture would be at risk of postponement as a result of the Buddies test.
However, the South Lanarkshire side have released a statement confirming that they have returned negative tests for all playing and non-playing staff at the club. The news will be welcomed by the Scottish Champions and all of the Scottish clubs who feared that the news from Paisley might hamper the restart.
Celtic will play Hamilton behind closed doors on August 2 as the quest for the ten begins. The most important thing is the safety of players and it is disappointing that the Saints were able to be infected but fortunately they didn’t spread the virus.
